IS IT OKAY TO HAVE A FILTERED LIFE?

Monday, 7 August 2017

I've seen a lot of posts by people saying they don't like Instagram, as it creates the illusion of having  perfect life. While this opinion is perfectly acceptable and I do understand it, I think posting the good aspects of your life on Instagram is perfectly fine.

As human beings, we have a tendency to only want to showcase the good aspects of our life. With friends (unless they are very close) we are unlikely to tell them the bad things and only the good. I think of Instagram as a friend I'm not too close with - I still want to keep them up to date with my life but I won't tell them everything.

It's completely okay to show your life off in a certain way, if you don't want to post the negative aspects of life then you don't have to. At the end of the day, I only take pictures of the good things that are happening in my life. I don't take a selfie of me popping down to the doctors because 1) I don't want to and 2) because it's not a part of my life I want to show off.

On my Instagram I post pictures of nice days out and pictures that I like of me. I don't go out more than average; I don't have a perfect life filled with going out for afternoon tea at all days of the week; I don't go sightseeing around Scotland all the time. My life is filled with mostly mundane things, such as going to Tesco to pick up bread and milk, so why shouldn't I be entitled to post the good things that happen in my life?

This comes down to two things; who we are as human beings and our own opinions on Instagram. I have friends who post loads on Instagram; I have a friend who posts everything - what she had for breakfast, what she's doing today etc. and I have another friend, who posts a lot but a lot of the good aspects of her life. Both are perfectly acceptable and I'm never going to police what they do with their individual accounts. For me, I am a bit more restrained when it comes to Instagram. I post one picture every few days, and I don't have a theme going on so I just post whatever I feel like. And that is okay too.

It's up to you to make your own opinions on social media and Instagram, personally I think the invention of social media is great and you can post whatever you like on any of your social media accounts. However, as I've said at the start, people will disagree with me and that's perfectly okay. Instagram isn't everyone's cup of tea and that's a personal opinion.

What's your opinion on Instagram? Let me know in the comments!!
